What depression feels like?

When she was a child, they told her “Shut up when elders speak.”

She said “Okay.”

But when elders are wrong

Is she still not supposed to speak?

After years, they ask her

“Why are you so quiet?”

The coordinator in his school only caught him

For his petty mistakes,

But never took any action against the elite councilors

For their grave mistakes.

He lost his confidence!

Her school dance teacher

Never gave her a chance

for performing on the Annual Day

Because she was not her favorite.

She gave up dancing!

He couldn’t get into the IITs,

Because he didn’t come from a rich family

Even though he was the most intelligent

Among his batch.

They asked her in an MBA Interview,

“Are you an introvert”

So many thoughts crossed her mind

Knowing if she would say ‘yes’

She will lose the admission.

To all those who are knowingly or unknowingly

Going through the pain of not getting accepted in this world

I will tell you that this world was never made for those

Who didn’t fit the norm

People like you and me were always left out

Secluded,

Struggling to identify our true selves

Fighting everyday to put on a fake smile to face this world

Finding a way to survive in this

Chaotic,

Hypo-critic,

Nepotist

And partial world!!!

Let me tell you my friend that you are not alone!!

I don’t know when this world will change for better

And stop judging each other on the pretense of fake standards.

To the one who feels “Oh how depressing this is!”

Let me tell you that no one is born to be depressed

Our personality is an outcome

Of our childhood experiences and beliefs formed due to them

Depression is a side effect of

traumatic experiences,

nonacceptance in the society,

continuous failure and no innate motivation to move ahead.

Our world seems to collapse everyday

And we just want to escape people

We don’t want anyone to give us free advice

We don’t want people to judge us

We don’t want people to decide our fate

Because we are tired living this life

Of constant fear, self-dejection, and innumerable tears falling

From our eyes that our head hurts

We want some space breath, some kind words to feel loved,

Someone to keep their hand on our back and guide us

Dear parents, friends, teachers, relatives, neighbors, and to all the people

Who are a part of our lives

Maybe you can help us

Maybe you can help us live again

Maybe you can give us

“KINDNESS”,
“ACCEPTANCE”
“AND A WORLD WITHOUT EXPECTATIONS”

Hey readers,

I urge to you………

If you are facing any issue……… please do tell to your greatest confidant

Maybe you can reach out to a professional counsellor

Maybe you can write out your thoughts on a piece of a paper and show them

If you are not comfortable speaking it

And remember one thing

“There is nothing in this world that can’t be solved”

I can say this because I have personally experience it

And let me tell you that “YOU ARE NOT WRONG”

That “YOU MATTER!!”

And to those who feel that someone is facing some issues,

please listen to them………….

Don’t utter a single word telling about your experiences…….

Just listen and ask them questions…….Let them speak………

Help them seek a professional psychologist……..

Don’t think it as a bad image………

Because many people still shy away from going to a psychologist!!!!

And lastly, let kindness be your gift to others!!!

(We need to create awareness. We have lost talented people to depression. We need to make mental health a part of our daily fitness. Through this blog, I would also suggest all schools to make mental health a part of students’ curriculum. And most importantly, I would like to request parents to take full care of what they speak to their children. Because a series of constant negative words can stay in a child’s mind for years and he/she will start believing it as it comes from his/her parents.

Encourage children to express their emotions!!! Tell them that its okay to be vulnerable. Please don’t tell boys that they cannot cry. Please don’t scare children just to feed them. Let your children be themselves)
